ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Requirements

GCSEs: English Language and Maths at Grade 4 or above (or equivalent) – required
Level 3 training in Performing Arts, Dance or Drama – preferred, but not essential
UCAS points: Not required (applications are made directly to ROM)

Applicants with significant prior training or professional experience may be considered through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway.

Audition

All applicants are required to attend an audition, demonstrating ability across dance, singing, and acting.

Dance/ Movement Workshop: Jazz-based technique and routine (75–90 mins)
Solo Song: Musical Theatre style, max 90 seconds
One monologue: Any Style, max 90 seconds
Optional: One solo dance routine, 90 seconds

Applicants showing high levels of performance skill may be considered for entry even if they do not fully meet academic requirements.

LEVEL SIX

The RPL / BA (Hons) Top-Up in Professional Musical Theatre is designed for:

ROM Diploma graduates who wish to expand their learning and gain a validated degree award
Graduates of other three-year Diploma or vocational training programmes who want to achieve a recognised BA (Hons) qualification alongside further professional development

This one-year course offers the opportunity to refine existing skills, build on prior training, and graduate with a university-validated award from the University of Chichester — a valuable recognition for those seeking to combine vocational excellence with an academic qualification.

Who IT THIS COURSE FOR?

LEVEL six (Year THREE)

Your final year prepares you for the industry through advanced training, original work, and professional exposure.

Modules include:

Dance Technique 3 – Audition-style Jazz, artistry, stamina, employability
Singing & Acting 3 – Audition portfolios, sight-reading, emotional authenticity
Creative Professional Performance – Devise & perform a new musical (30–35 mins)
Book Musical 3 – Final large-scale production to professional standards
Independent Academic Study – Dissertation, lecture-demo, or performance project

Plus

Industry Introductions – Present yourself to casting directors and agents for professional representation for entry into the "business"

PRO. PREPERATION

Our one-year Professional Musical Theatre programme is designed for students who have already completed a three-year Diploma or equivalent training and want an additional year of intensive study to step confidently into the industry.

This is a purely vocational course that mirrors the final year of our flagship BA (Hons) in Professional Musical Theatre. Students benefit from an equal focus on dance, acting, and singing, with Jazz as the core assessed discipline supported by Ballet, Tap, and commercial styles. The training reflects current industry demands and is designed to refine technique, extend artistry, and prepare you for professional auditions and employment.

As part of this programme, you will:

Train alongside our final-year BA students with full access to productions and opportunities
Perform in a fully staged Book Musical
Collaborate on an original new musical devised with professional creatives
Take part in a London agent showcase, performing in front of industry professionals
Receive individual mentoring and guidance from our experienced faculty to ensure you graduate with the professional tools required for a successful career
